Fall Trends 2014

How do you feel about trends this Fall? Are you overwhelmed? Do you puruse the stores and wonder what to choose?  Do you find yourself asking, “How can I incorporate this year’s styles into my wardrobe?”  Every season has it’s trends – Some you’ll love and some you won’t. I’m here to help you. After all, not all of us can wear big coats just because they’re in style. And some of us may feel confined in turtlenecks, despite them being “in” during a given season. Others may say “I never want to wear wide leg slacks again, even though I see them in every store this year.” Remember that trends are just that – trends.  You create your own personal look by incorporating the styles you see and love, and making them your own. There’s never a right or wrong. In the end,  it’s all about how you feel every morning when getting ready for the day. I’m looking forward to this Fall, and will be here to help you determine what trends are best for you so you can do the same!

The Five FALL TRENDS I’ll discuss below are….

  • Turtle Necks
  • ’60s Retro
  • Plaids
  • Coats
  • Accessories

Ready to be Cozy

Turtlenecks

Turtlenecks in thick knits and patterns are trending this Fall. Want a polished look?  One way to achieve it is to pair a knit pullover and matching knit scarf. Also try adding a fringe scarf. Jeans or a skirt and boots complete this cozy look. Best of all, your sweater and scarf can also be worn separately, adding flexibility to both your sweater wardrobe and your scarf collection. I’ll bet you have a plush, comfortable turtleneck sweater hiding somewhere in the back in your closet. Don’t leave it there. Try it on…You may be surprised!

Old is new again – Sixties are forever!

This season the ’60s are coming back strong! Your shopping trips are bound to bring back memories, with pieces that reflect  Retro 1960s  styles lining the racks.  Below, Adel’s dress and hair are perfect examples of what you’ll see this year. (I think Adel stole my hairstyle, by the way, so I couldn’t help sharing this photo of my husband and I from way back when.)  Also popular are new twists on classic designs. Take a look at Twiggy and the photo to her right; the model is wearing a fresh new version of her classic look for 2014.

Remember, just because you wore a style once doesn’t mean you can’t wear it again. Try putting your own personal twist on it, and “everything old is new again.”

Plaids & Tartian

A variety of plaids can be found this year. Try wearing them from head to toe, choose a fun skirt or top, or simply accessorize with a pretty plaid scarf. To complete your outfit, try to find a pair of plaid shoes this fall or tone your outfit down with a black or nude pump.

Warm Coats & Cozy Trends

This season Warm and Cozy is speaking out loud and clear. Shearlings, Bathrobe Coats, Blanket Coats, and Shawl Coats are all great choices to keep everyone fashionably warm this winter.  Whichever you choose, layering your outfits under them will be a breeze.

Accessories

Fringe is a big accessory trend this season. Have fun in a fringe dress, or just feature a touch of it on your handbag or scarf.

Or choose metallic materials, also in style this year. A shimmering leather bag makes a fashion statement, and metallic shoes punch up an otherwise basic look.
