Five Ways to Organize Your Closet & Start Having Fun

Do you enjoy going into your closet and putting together an outfit?  Maybe your closet is unorganized? Or maybe you can't find anything to wear despite the fact that it is packed with clothes?  Today, I want to help you have FUN in your closet!

Here are my five ways you can start having fun in your closet:

1. Good Ample Lighting

If you can't see the clothes or the color at 7:00am, how will you know what to wear? The most important element in any closet or dressing room is lighting. I can't tell you how many times I am in a client's closet and I am not sure if the colors are navy, black, or dark brown or if an item is white or off white or beige. You want your reds to blend and your blues to work together. How are you going to know if your clothing is clashing or blending if your lighting is poor? One last note. How many times have you left home and realized “OMG my outfit clashes” because now the sun is shining on you and you can see the real colors?

2. Full Length Mirror

It is essential to have a

full length mirror on your closet door or bedroom door. If you can't hang a full length mirror, get a free standing boudoir mirror. A mirror that shows only your upper half gives you an unbalanced picture of your appearance. You need to know if your outfit works for you head to toe. Go ahead and try on a couple of pair of shoes. Only a full length mirror will tell the entire story.

3. Hangers

Choose hangers that are all the same. I prefer thin felt hangers. They take up less space and the clothing stays on. Your closet looks and feels organized.

4. Step Stools for Reaching

If you store handbags, and boots on a high shelf it is a good idea to keep a step stool handy in your closet. This is another stress free tool for finding items in your closet.

5. Organize with Baskets and Clear Storage Containers

Baskets keep you organized. It is a place to put things you found in your pocket at the of the day. A large basket can hold extra handbags, belts scarfs, camis, t-shirts for exercise. Clear shoe boxes are another great organizational tool for your closet.
